Every artist strives to develop the style, technique and consistency that makes them stand out. After decades of independent study and experimentation, I found my niche in creating paintings that reflect rural farming and ranching in beautiful southwest Colorado. I use both oils and watercolors, but prefer oils for bright, deep colors and I like to work on a linen canvas which provides some innate texture. I draw with charcoal on the canvas and then spray a fixative before beginning the background. I move between knives and brushes to create texture and keep a smooth surface. When painting antique vehicles, 3 to 5 layers are used to create the patina of the rusty metal. What I dream of is capturing the wholesomeness and purity of the hardworking rural people through their implements, animals, and vehicles.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
I am inspired by the hardworking farmers and ranchers in Southwest Colorado. I have lived on a farm for over 30 years and appreciate the self-sufficiency this lifestyle offers. I want to capture on canvas this area's natural beauty, the historic farm buildings and vehicles left to rust in the environment, as well as the domestic animals that help support this lifestyle.
I paint in a realistic style whether using watercolor or oil. I draw my subjects on canvas or paper, use a fixative, then complete the painting with knives and/or brushes. A painting can take from days to weeks to complete, depending on the size and detail. My artwork has a nostalgic quality and reflects peaceful themes from real life.
I am a self-taught artist who took some art classes in college. I have studied techniques in Artist magazine articles, artist biographies, first-hand observations at art galleries, and experimentation. I am affiliated with Oil Painters of America, Alla Prima Painters, American Art Collectors, and Xanadu Gallery Catalogue.
